Could you tell us about Heyliot’s mission?

At Heyliot, we help local authorities and waste collection companies to optimize waste management. Our sensors can monitor container fill levels in real time. This avoids sending a truck to empty them when they are not full. They also help avoid overflowing waste containers, something which frustrates local people and causes pollution.

We use a LoRa connected solution to collect container fill data with our sensors, and to send it to the waste collector’s equipment. Our software optimizes waste collection runs, and allows our platform to track fill levels in real-time.

Could you tell us more about the equipment you host on TOTEM infrastructure?

We host “LoRa gateways” on TOTEM infrastructure, which helps connect our sensors. This technology consumes very little energy, and it is widely available throughout mainland France. Sometimes, we need to supplement existing coverage. To do this, we use telecommunications infrastructure like you manage at TOTEM.

Heyliot’s LoRa equipment is installed at the top of the tower. It is connected to waste containers in the surrounding area, and shares real-time information via a dedicated platform to track container fill levels.

What do you think about the business relationship with TOTEM?

We contacted TOTEM as we needed to extend our network in the Megève sector. I really appreciated how responsive your teams were, and your capacity to meet our needs quickly.

Our decision was partly guided by the quality of your sites, and also the business relationship. It was a very smooth process.

TOTEM is a towerco that is committed to societal and environmental issues. We assume that this is important to you, considering your line of business?

At Heyliot, we followed an eco-design process to develop our container sensors, made locally in Brittany. Improving the waste collection process is closely linked to CSR: it avoids unnecessary vehicle runs that cause pollution (we have a customer who reduced the distance traveled to collect textiles by 40% in 6 months thanks to our sensors). Obviously it limits the carbon footprint, and avoids the contamination caused by overflowing containers.

It is also less tiring for drivers, who no longer need to check the fill level manually.

How do you view your future partnership with TOTEM?

At the moment, I am not sure where we will need additional coverage for our sensors, but we would be happy to work with TOTEM again. You will be our number one choice.

We tend to install our sensors at landfills, and also at sites such as telecommunication tower sites.

Installing our equipment on towers helps ensure a good level of coverage, which is very important for a company like Heyliot.
